GPPI Breakfast Lecture on Promise Neighborhoods
Called “one of the most ambitious social-service experiments of our time” by the New York Times, the Harlem Children’s Zone attempts to create a neighborhood of college-oriented peers and supportive adults to counter the negative influences of “the street.”
Date: Monday, January 25, 2010
Location: National Press Club, Holeman Lounge, 13th Floor (529 14th St, NW)
Time: 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. - Breakfast will be provided.
RSVP to Meg Loftus at mel96@georgetown.edu
Come listen to Katherine Shoemaker, Director of Policy and Special Projects at HCZ (and GPPI Alumna Class of ’99) speak about her experiences, and lessons that may be applied to Promise Neighborhoods, an initiative put forth by President Obama to replicate findings of the HCZ. GPPI professors Drs. Harry Holzer and Steven Smith will also provide insights.
